It’s the holiday season, so it’s time to put a bow on the 2022 regular season! Let’s do a season recap for all the teams – you know, like we do every season.
It’s the NPL season end write-up!
ESPN: 5 correct, 5 incorrect, pick accuracy: 46.25%
NPL: 6 correct, 4 incorrect, pick accuracy: 53.00%
DaVena started the year 3-4 and finished 4-3, to end 7-7, which has been a popular record for her in her time with the NPL. She tied her opponent, Michael, at 16th in the league in pick accuracy.
Michael would probably like a do-over on the final six weeks of the season, where he finished 2-4 and missed out on his first division championship. However, his 8-6 finish and pick accuracy was enough to top Adam and LeScoot for the final Wild Card spot, so he’s playoff bound anyway!
DAVENA WINS, 17-16
Axell enjoyed his best season with the NPL so far, and has improved in each season. Axell finished 22nd in pick accuracy, but he only missed his personal best in correct picks by two. He had his first winning season, claiming a Wild Card after losing the division championship to a tiebreaker with Kevin.
Ryan, on the other hand, had his second worst year in picks, and finished 6-8 for the fourth time since joining the league. The Prophet Division was close all year round, so Ryan was still alive for much of the second half despite his struggles. He finishes 27th in accuracy and misses out on the postseason.
AXELL WINS, 25-24
Kevin wins his second division championship in three years. He was one of several players to claim the **rare** “7-off” pin this year as well, averaging just 6.86 points off of the Monday night score. He claims the division banner despite finishing 13th in accuracy and last in the NPL in Quality Weeks (1).
Josh bounces back from one of his worst seasons in the NPL, missing the playoffs for the first time in six seasons with a 5-9 record. He reverses that, finishing 9-5, t-3rd in accuracy, and 1st in Quality Weeks (8) to claim his sixth Prophet Division championship banner and the #2 seed.
JOSH WINS, 38-23
Samuel started the season on a rough note, losing the first three games of the season. After that, it was a struggle to keep up with Matt atop the division. Samuel finished 7-7 on the year, t-13th in pick accuracy.
Sure, Travis finished 3-11 on the year, but he started 0-7, so there was definite improvement in the second half of the season. Travis finished 28th in pick accuracy.
SAMUEL WINS, 48-37
Corey put together a nice winning streak in the middle of the season (4) and another to close out the season (3) to claim his second Auspex Division Champion banner. He finished t-10th in the league in pick accuracy and is on to the post season.
Matt finished t-7th in the league in pick accuracy, but was streaky in terms of wins and losses. He finished 7-7, but it was good enough to claim the division, so he’ll see some post season action!
COREY WINS, 45-34
One of the better seasons for Laci, finishing with her first winning season since 2016. She finished 24th in pick accuracy, and her 8-6 record was just not quite enough to get to the post season.
Ah, Coin Tossers. Rather than flip a coin ten times (who has time for that?), this time it’s automated with a random number between 0 and 10000, same with the MM score. How’d it work out? Well, Coin won its first game ever. And its second, third, and fourth. It finished 19th in pick accuracy. How does that make you feel, 20th-32nd?
LACI WINS, 20-0
Weirdly fitting that these two players meet in the final week of the season.
Andrew missed four weeks this season, which did him no favors considering he was 5-5 in those other ten games. The no-shows also dragged his pick accuracy to a league-worst 41.4%.
Vince was only slightly better in that he missed three weeks this season. Vince had the only platinum week, 10 correct, back in Week 8, but spent the bulk of the season in the 3-5 correct picks range, finishing one spot ahead of Andrew, 31st in pick accuracy at 42.9%.
ANDREW WINS, 19-0
Tale of two pick accuracies here. Both Rachel and Bette finished t-7th in the NPL in pick accuracy. However, Rachel finished 7-7 on the year and will miss the playoffs, whereas Bette finished 8-6 and won her division. Rachel hit quite the rough patch in the middle of the season, going 2-6 from Week 4 to Week 12.
Bette was dominant in the first half of the season, starting off with a 6-1 record. The second half of the season was rough, where she had a few cold weeks in picks and bad breaks in others, to go 2-5 to close out the year. Still, it’s back to back Foreteller Division championships for Bette!
RACHEL WINS, 29-5
Ethan closed out the year on a six game winning streak, finishing with a personal best in pick accuracy (61.43%, t-3rd) and record (11-3), en route to a division championship and a #2 seed in the Clairvoyant Conference. He also carries the NPL Title Belt with this successful defense over Brandon.
Brandon finishes with his first losing season since 2016, despite finishing t-3rd in pick accuracy in the NPL. But, due to the competitive nature of his division, he finished just two games out of first, so it wasn’t all terrible.
ETHAN WINS, 37-36
Kelly skipped out on the last two weeks of the season, which is an unfortunate end to a three game winning streak. The 7-game losing streak from Week 2 to Week 9 probably didn’t help her spirits. She finished 23rd in pick accuracy.
LeScoot finished 8-6 on the year after this Free Win from Kelly, which was his first winning season since his 11-3 finish in 2015. Unfortunately, his pick accuracy (55.0%, 18th) was not good enough to snag a Wild Card.
LeSCOOT WINS, 20-0
Like her division rival, Kelly, Miranda also skipped out on the last two weeks of the season. She was riding a six-game losing streak from 4-2 to 4-8, so can you blame her? Miranda finished 30th in pick accuracy with 45.0%.
Adam was alive for a Wild Card or the division championship coming into this week, but needed a strong week to compete. He did not have a strong week. Just three correct in this win. He finishes 8-6 to claim his first winning season since 2017. Still, his t-20th accuracy (52.9%) was not enough to get to the post season.
ADAM WINS, 17-2
Joel got to 11-3 with a 5-game winning streak and a 4-game winning streak, and finished 2nd in the NPL in pick accuracy with 63.6%. Despite being the 2nd best player in the NPL this season, the best player was also in his division, so he’ll settle for a Wild Card.
Jerry wasn’t looking great to start the year, dropping three of his first four games. But he bounced back, ultimately putting together a 5-game winning streak before dropping this one. Jerry also finished t-3rd in accuracy and actually got the #1 seed over Josh thanks to winning their matchup in Week 7.
JOEL WINS, 28-25
Brian strung together eight straight to close out the year and hold off Joel from the division banner. He finishes with the t-1st record of 11-3 and the best pick accuracy in the league at 64.29%, and set an NPL record in Average MM Difference with an even 6.00, all which earn Brian his first Player of the Year award!
Brent finished strong, winning three of his last four en route to a Wild Card. His pick accuracy placed him 10th (59.3%) but he was one of the few to claim that rare 7-Off pin for finishing with an average MM difference of 6.29.
BRIAN WINS, 17-4
Steven joined Kelly and Miranda in taking the last two weeks of the season off, but not everyone has five free minutes to submit picks, so it’s no big deal. At 5-4 after Week 9, Steven was still very much in the thick of things. He finished with 69 correct picks (nice!) for 26th best pick accuracy.
Ricky joined his brother Adam with a 3-correct Free Win this week and a t-20th pick accuracy. What are the odds? Ricky finished 6-8 on the year, but the wild stat is that he was 0-7 in Monday Madness tiebreakers, so he wasn’t exactly struggling to hang with the competition. Just get better at picking scores, man!
RICKY WINS, 17-2
Chris started off ice cold, going 2-5 to start the year. He finished 4-3 and claimed Jason’s Player of the Week with this performance. He finished t-10th in pick accuracy, but will miss out on the post season for his third consecutive season.
Cari, unlike Chris, started hot, winning three of her first four games, but closed out the year on a 2-7 record. She finished 29th in pick accuracy, and misses the postseason for the 6th straight season.
CHRIS WINS, 46-6
The reigning NPL Player of the Year had a rough year in 2022. After starting off with three wins in the first five weeks, Jennifer lost seven straight before closing out with back-to-back wins, including this one in PRIIIIIIIME TIIIIIIIME. She finished 15th in the NPL in pick accuracy with 57.1% but that losing streak dashed any hope of playoffs.
Berkenbile was running away with the division with a 6-2 record. Then the wheels came off. He rides a 6-game losing streak into the off-season, waiving goodbye to the division and a potential Wild Card in the process. He finishes 25th in pick accuracy.
JENNIFER WINS, 20-6
