That’s it folks! The 2024 regular season is in the bag! The Week 14 write-up is once again a year in review for our pickers. Thanks for coming out this season! Win or lose, good picks and bad, this league is always fun to operate and I thank you, once again, for being part of the fun! It’s the NPL, Week 14!
The Jaguars bring us a fitting end to the 2024 NPL Upset of the Week journey by defeating the Titans with the support of only two pickers! That earns them the final Upset of the Week with a huge 95.12% Underdog Rating!
The NPL players were better than the ESPN experts this week. The ESPN experts lead the series 46-38-42.
Kelly had a wonderful regular season. Her 95 correct picks was eight more than her previous best. And she did not submit in week three! What could have been!? Kelly finished 15th in pick accuracy and t-8th in Quality Week Points, en route to 9-5 on the year for a Wild Card out of the Augur Division.
We’ll probably hear this a lot, but Michael also established a new personal best in correct picks with 98, nine more than his best season back in 2012! Michael was neck and neck with Josh at the top of the Prophet Division for much of the season, but dropped three of his last five to ultimately slip down to third, one game out of the Wild Card hunt. Michael finished 9th in pick accuracy and t-10th in Quality Week Points.
KELLY WINS, 38-21
Ethan was cruising to start the year, starting off 6-0 with some NPL Title Belt magic. He was sitting pretty at 9-2 before dropping his final three games of the year to fall to third in the Augur Division. Ethan finished t-17th in pick accuracy and t-16th in Quality Week Points, but survived with a Wild Card to move on to the post season!
Ryan has a terrible habit of splitting the season between a rough half and a stellar half. He did it again this season. At 3-6, the playoffs looked like an unreachable destination. And yeah, he didn’t reach it, but he rattled off five straight to make it interesting! That solid finish propelled him to a personal best 99 correct picks, t-5th in the league in pick accuracy, and t-5th in Quality Week Points.
RYAN WINS, 36-23
Once one of the dominant teams in the Clairvoyant Conference, with one losing season in her first seven, Miranda has struggled as of late. That’s four straight seasons with 9 or more losses and sub 50% pick accuracy. She failed to submit twice this season and finished last with a true accuracy of 45.7%. Though she did just best Cari in Quality Week Points (3). We eagerly anticipate her return to greatness in 2025!
Berkenbile had about as hot a start as you could ask for in 2024. He kicked off the season in week one with 10 correct picks and with an exact MM score. Perfect week! He peaked early. But, he did have a solid close to the season, three straight weeks with 8 correct picks! Berkenbile finished t-23rd in pick accuracy and t-10th in Quality Week Points.
BERKENBILE WINS, 45-0
Chris had an interesting year. He started the year with a 6-1 record, but while his accuracy increased by over five percent in the second half, he actually had a losing record of 3-4 to close out the year. Still, it was good enough for the Oracle Division banner! Back to back champs! Chris finished 3rd in pick accuracy and t-5th in Quality Week Points.
Vince struggled to find his footing early on, posting 5-correct weeks (including two weeks of Did Not Submit) in five of the first seven weeks of the season. This put him into a death spiral, losing seven games in a row. He finished strong, though, winning three of his last five. Vince finished 26th in pick accuracy and t-25th in Quality Week Points, but his 78 correct picks was only five off of his personal best.
CHRIS WINS, 46-21
Steven failed to submit picks twice in the first half of the season, including a game in which his opponent only got four picks correct, but found himself very much in the hunt at 5-4 after week nine. He ran into a bit of a meat grinder toward the end of the season with opponents averaging 8-correct from Week 10 through Week 13, which derailed his playoff hopes. Steven finished 28th in pick accuracy and 24th in Quality Week Points.
Samuel was feeling pretty good after Week 9. He just posted a platinum week, 10 correct, to end a four week stretch in which he guessed over eight correct each week. Then the wheels came off. Samuel closed out the season on a five game losing streak and missed the playoffs. He set a personal best with 90 correct picks, but given the success of others this year, that was only good enough for t-19th in pick accuracy. He was t-13th in Quality Week Points.
STEVEN WINS, 46-15
Joel missed the century mark in correct picks by one (99) and established a new personal best. He was also one of two players to have two platinum weeks this season (the other is Ryan) with 10 correct picks. Unfortunately, dropping three Monday Madness tiebreakers hurt his position in the standings. He finished 7-7, 2nd in the Oracle Division. Joel finished t-5th in both pick accuracy and Quality Week Points in 2024.
Matt was solid this year and finished with a new personal best of 91 correct picks, just three more than his stellar rookie season. Unfortunately, because Erik was on a roll much of the season, Matt was always in chase mode. He misses the playoffs one game out in the Wild Card at 8-6. Matt finished t-17th in pick accuracy and t-21st in Quality Week Points.
JOEL WINS, 47-31
Brian’s 99 correct picks established a new personal best, but it did little to help his win-loss record this season. He had some tough breaks. He lost to a platinum week when he had seven correct, and dropped four out of five Monday Madness tiebreakers. His pick accuracy finish (t-5th) and his Quality Week Points finish (t-8th) should have been enough for the post season, but not this time!
Erik started the year on a blistering pace, not finding himself in the Loss column until Week 9’s contest against Michael. He sets the bar in the Soothsayer Conference with 12 wins and claims the banner for the Mystic Division in 2024! Erik finished t-5th in pick accuracy and 4th in Quality Week Points, and snagged himself the #1 seed in the Soothsayer Conference, which comes with a complimentary first round bye! On the house!
ERIK WINS, 47-32
Kevin had one week, just ONE week, where he didn’t claim a Quality Week medal. From Week 4 on, Kevin never had fewer than 7 correct in a given week. Kevin finished just 3 picks behind league best, eclipsed the century mark in correct picks (104), and finished at 9-5 for the third year running to claim the Sage Division banner three-peat! Kevin finished 2nd in pick accuracy and 2nd in Quality Week Points.
But on the other hand, no three-peat for Bette in the Foreteller Division! Bette won the division in each of the previous two seasons, but the rest of the gang came to play in 2024. She had a rough first half, including a four week stretch in which she averaged 5.25 correct, but rebounded nicely to finish 5-2 on the year. Unfortunately, 7-7 wasn’t enough to survive into the post season in the Foreteller Division. Bette finished 16th in pick accuracy and 15th in Quality Week Points this season.
BETTE WINS, 44-30
Axell was one of our “L7 Losers” in 2024, joining Vince and Cari with 7 game losing streaks from Week 3 to Week 9. He finished strong, though, winning four out of the last six on the year. He set a personal best in correct picks (85), but also had one of the toughest schedules this season. His Opponent Strength rating of 93 was 4th. Axell finished 22nd in pick accuracy and t-25th in Quality Week Points.
Brandon returns to the post season with his second straight Wild Card appearance out of the Foreteller Division. It was neck and neck there, where he missed out on claiming the division banner by two correct picks! Winning four out of his last five, Brandon beat his own longtime NPL record by one correct on the year (wave goodbye to it, Brandon!). He finished 14th in pick accuracy and t-16th in Quality Week Points!
BRANDON WINS, 36-24
It wasn’t a stellar start for DaVena, who found herself at 1-4 to start the season, despite decent picking. She ended up winning five of her next six, and was looking at a possible Wild Card before dropping the final three on the year. DaVena was tracking for a new NPL record in Average MM Difference, sitting at 5.75 AMMD with two weeks to go, until that got away too. DaVena finished 6-8 on the season, 2nd in the Sage Division, and was 21st in pick accuracy and 23rd in Quality Week Points.
Adam got hot when the heat was needed. After starting 4-1, he lost four straight and was sitting at 4-5, on the outside looking in. He rattled off a five game winning streak to close out 2024, snagged the Foreteller Division champion banner (his first), and returns to the post season for the first time in seven seasons! Adam finished t-11th in pick accuracy and t-16th in Quality Week Points.
ADAM WINS, 49-34
The defending Seer Cup and Auspex Division champion, Andrew wasn’t able to replicate the productivity of last season. He had two notable losing streaks, four games and five games, and nearly flipped his 11-3 record from 2023 completely. He finished 4-10, last in the Auspex, and was 27th in pick accuracy and t-21st in Quality Week Points.
Last year’s NPL Player of the Year, Brent waited until the final week of the season to make it interesting in the Psychic Division. He leaps Jerry with the win here to claim the banner, his second straight. He sets a new personal best with 96 correct picks and 71.1% accuracy (13th), and finished t-10th in Quality Week Points.
BRENT WINS, 45-38
It was another fine year for Laci. Her 80 correct picks was her third season clearing that mark since she joined in 2009. She spent much of the year following a win with a loss and vice versa, and finished 6-8, good enough for second in the Auspex Division. She finished 25th in pick accuracy and 29th in Quality Week Points.
Ricky wasn’t quite out of it at 3-6 back in Week 9, but he fumbled the end of the season, dropping all five games from that point on, including another one to Cari. Ricky finished 3-11, his worst finish since 2019, and his fourth season with double digit losses. He settled in at 29th in pick accuracy and 28th in Quality Week Points.
LACI WINS, 31-28
For a minute there it looked like the Auspex Division were going to send someone to the post season with a .500 record or worse. But the “I only win the Auspex Division in even-numbered years” approach for Corey paid off and he takes the banner, his third in this division (5th overall). Corey finished 10th in pick accuracy and t-13th in Quality Week Points.
Jerry had a fine year overall, but probably wants this one back. Or maybe one of those 3-correct or 4-correct duds he had along the way. This overtime loss to Corey ultimately cost him the Psychic Division banner, but he still sneaks into the playoffs with a Wild Card thanks to his 9-5 record on the year. Jerry finished t-19th in pick accuracy and 20th in Quality Week Points.
COREY WINS, 47-42
Travis had a disaster of a second half in 2024. After starting the year 5-3, everything came unraveled. He finished the season on a six game losing streak to finish 5-9 on the year and miss out of the post season. But, silver lining, he did sweep Laci. Travis finished the year at 30th in pick accuracy and t-30th in Quality Week Points.
Cari had a league best (positive spin) 9-game losing streak in 2024 that may or may not have hurt her playoff chances. She did complete the sweep of Ricky this year, and finished the campaign with a win in this one, one of her two weeks with seven correct or better in 2024. Cari finished 2024 at 31st in pick accuracy and last in Quality Week Points.
CARI WINS, 37-5
Given the frustrating 2024 season, one can hardly blame Jennifer for pulling a no-show in the final week. Jennifer had the rare treat of three separate 3-game losing streaks. She was solid on her picks for much of the season, however, but was the unfortunate winner of the toughest NPL schedule, facing an average of 7 or more correct each week. She finished 3-11 on the season, t-23rd in pick accuracy, and t-25th in Quality Week Points.
LeScoot has a weird habit of trading wins for losses and he did it again this season. He never had more than two wins or two losses in a row. No streaks at all. His 96 correct picks was good enough for a personal best and settled him in at t-11th in pick accuracy. He finished t-16th in Quality Week Points, but finished the season at 7-7 and will be watching from home next weekend.
LeSCOOT WINS, 26-0
Rachel at 10-3 with a six game winning streak. Josh at 10-3 with a six game winning streak. That’s what the final PRIIIIIIIME TIIIIIIIME game of the season is all about! And this was a good one!
Rachel was 4-3 to start the year and with Ethan’s 6-0 start, she was constantly chasing him in the second half of the season. But where he faltered, she did not. She rattled off six in a row in the final seven games before losing this nailbiter. She jumps Ethan in the standings to claim the Augur Division banner, finishes in the century club in correct picks (100), and finished 10-4 to earn the #1 seed in the Clairvoyant Conference! She finished 4th in pick accuracy and t-2nd in Quality Week Points! What a season!
But, Josh got the last laugh! Josh wins this one to retain the NPL Title Belt for at least one more week. He finished the year 11-3 on a seven game winning streak! He also snagged the Prophet Division banner, his seventh, topped the league in pick accuracy (76.4%), AYST badges (8), Quality Week Points (24), and earned a first round bye! He emerged from the cloud of dust with all the other top pickers to establish a new NPL record with 107 correct picks in a season! Great year!
JOSH WINS, 44-43
